What is Hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding involves creating a mixture of water, seeds, wood fiber mulch, fertilizer, and bonding agents in a Hydroseeder tank to create a thick slurry, then using a hose to spray it onto prepared soil. This process ensures even coverage, and promotes fast germination. It’s perfect for  small areas, erosion control, and hard-to-seed areas, providing quick results with minimal lawn compaction.

Soil Preparation

Proper soil preparation is the foundation of a healthy lawn. By loosening compacted earth and balancing nutrients, you ensure young roots can easily penetrate the soil and access water. This upfront effort leads to faster germination and a lush, resilient lawn that saves you the hassle of reseeding later.

Hydroseed Application

  • Low-Impact Maneuverability: The 400-gallon capacity and 100 ft hose allows us to get the job done efficiently without the need for heavy machinery on your lawn.

  • Precision Placement: Using a hose rather than a truck-mounted spray gun means we can navigate around flower beds, fences, and tight corners to place the seed exactly where it’s needed.

  • Consistent Growth Environment: The slurry mix provides a stable environment for germination, helping to protect the seed from wind and light runoff during the early stages of growth.

  • Uniformity: By spraying the seed in a liquid suspension, we achieve a more consistent distribution than traditional broadcast seeding, reducing the likelihood of bare spots.

Watering

Success with hydroseeding relies heavily on moisture consistency. To germinate properly, the seed needs to stay damp—typically requiring light watering several times a day for the first few weeks. To make this easier for you, we offer automated sprinkler system setups. This takes the guesswork out of the process, ensuring the application receives the steady, precise watering it needs to thrive without the hassle of manual sprinklers.

New Sprouts

Seeing those first sprouts is an exciting milestone. At this stage, the young grass is establishing its root system and requires continued, consistent moisture. Maintaining your watering routine now ensures these vulnerable new blades mature into a dense, hardy lawn.

Ready to mow

When your new lawn reaches a height of about 3 to 4 inches, it is officially ready for its first cut. For this initial mow, ensure your mower blades are sharp and set the deck high—removing only the top third of the grass blade. This encourages the roots to grow deeper and the lawn to fill in thicker, transitioning your yard from a project to a living landscape.
